Happy July 4th!

I wanted to sit and write a little about the 4th. July 4th is my very favorite holiday. I thought about what to write. Do I write about what the 4th means to me, personally? Nah, to sappy for my taste. Do I write about what I'm planning on doing this 4th? Nope, to boring. Instead, I'm going to write a small bit about where to spend the 4th.

If you ever get a chance to head north, Wrangell, Alaska is one of the best places to spend your day on the 4th of July. The downtown road is shut down, so it's walking only. Don't worry, the road isn't that long. You can attend the parade in the morning. If you are lucky, a cruise ship will be in dock and the showgirls will march through town and everyone will just stand there with their mouths wide open. The big logging trucks will come through, a few homemade floats, the town grocery store employees will march with their stereos all playing the same tune. After the parade you can take your pick on things to do. Do you go to all the booths for fun and food, or down a side street to play games. There will be a woman sitting in an ambulance, using the speaker to tell you when to toss your egg. "Toss your egg now" will forever be in your head.

You can go out on the water in a boat, or just sit on the dock and watch the lumber contests and log rolling in the water. It's pretty much an entire day of playing and having fun. At night, you can watch a firework show on the harbor.

I suppose small towns have the best parties. I do enjoy Salt Lake on the 4th. You can choose to do just about anything, but it just isn't the same.

Besides A Capitol 4th in DC, Wrangell, Alaska is a fun place. I do have one more wish on the 4th. I'm sure my mom and Noelle would go with me. I want to sit on the banks of the Charles River, in front of the Boston Pops, and watch the firework show. That would be the best.

Hope you all have a terrific holiday wherever you are!
