I went to the zoo last week with Braedon's class. I love going on field trips with my son and his class. As I waited for his bus to arrive I was able to talk with another parent about her son and the joy she gets from going on field trips.
When Braedon got off the bus and saw me, he smiled and ran to hug me. He's been to the zoo a couple of times and never seems too interested in the animals. With the exception of the elephants, which are his very favorite. This time was different. He seemed to know where we were.
While we waited for everyone to get off the bus and into the zoo we looked at some turkeys and a wolf. They weren't together, of course. That would have been a bloody sight. Braedon seemed excited, almost giddy at looking at the animals.
Next up were the tigers. It was early in the morning and they were all walking around and enjoying their day. The kids were so excited and some even roared a bit (the kids). Braedon told me they were tigers and then asked to see the elephants. He remembered they were here!! WOOHOO!!
We did see the elephants and Braedon stood and watched them for a long time. There was a little baby elephant which he seemed to be interested in. In the zoo there are several statues of the animals that kids can climb on and get pictures with. One we passed was of a Rhino. A few of the kids ran over and climbed on and we were taking their picture. Braedon just stood there frozen. I knocked on the animal to help him understand it wasn't real. He ran up to it, knocked, and quickly ran a few feet away. Statues of animals are really a hard concept for Braedon.
We continued through the zoo and saw giraffes, turtles, snakes, and monkeys. Braedon was such a great little boy. He loved all of it. I am so happy he knew he was at the zoo and was happy to see all the animals.
Next field trip is to see dinosaurs next week. Woohoo! I'm going and we'll see what he thinks.
