My little Reilly

Do you know what's cute? Reilly talking. He has finally begun to try out the English, and just a little Spanish, language. He discovered colors one day. After watching the same video about 50 times, he can say yellow, blue, green, and orange...red came later. After about two weeks, he can point to something and tell you the color. Yeah!

Listening to him with a voice has been a real treat for me. I worry about Reilly. He doesn't seem as high functioning as his brother. I worry how much language skill he will have. Just he fact he has a few words means everything to me. He is trying out the alphabet now. To give you a little taste. A = Apple D = Duck Y = Yellow V = Doh T = Turtle H = H and a few other letters. Oh, L = L I like to listen to him spell DVD when it pops up on TV. I hear, Duck, Doh, Duck. He then smiles really big and I praise his success.

He seems to be getting more and more words. His ability to understand still isn't improving too much. He is turning his head when I say his name, which is a great improvement for him. We keep working on things.

I'd love to say that each day is better then the next, but that isn't how autism works. It's more like each couple months is better then the last. I tell people that one of the hardest things in dealing with autism is how slow time moves. You know how people will say that you should enjoy the time you have with your children, now, because they grow up so fast! Well, I disagree with that. My children do not grow up fast. They grow up at a very very slow rate. I still enjoy it though.

I feel I've babbled my way through this blog...such is a Monday
