Snuggle Bug

Something I really enjoy doing is snuggling with my little boys in the morning as they first wake up. Braedon likes to lay in bed and look at me. I memorize his nose, eyes, the shape of his mouth. I usually give him a back rub and hold him tight. Braedon loves to be held close and tight. He's always been very affectionate.

I've hoped that one day I could do the same with Reilly. You see, Reilly doesn't like to be touched. His sensory issues are almost completely opposite of Braedon's. He can't stand for someone to rub his back or gently stroke his hair. Usually he doesn't even hold still long enough to even try.

That all ended this morning. Finally the day came! I was sitting in the living room with Dean and Braedon when Reilly walked in and took my hand. He led me back to his room and back to the bed. I climbed in and snuggled in beside him. We stayed there for about 15 minutes. It was probably the most loving 15 minutes Reilly has ever been. He looked at me. I memorized his nose, eyes, the shape of his mouth. I rubbed his back (deep pressure so it wouldn't bug him). I kissed him on the cheek several times and he just smiled. He didn't mind being close for those 15 minutes. All I could think about was how long I felt I had waited for this moment.

Just as quickly as he had come to get me he pushed me away and the moment was over. I sure do love that kid, sensory issues and all! It's really the smallest of the small things that mean the absolute most to me.
