Cloud 9

What a wonderful day! Incredible! Perfect! That's how I describe Braedon and Reilly's first day of school. First Braedon...

Once we got him dressed and told him we were going to school he was set. "Cool", as he calls it. I went with Dean this morning to take them to school. Once we got to the building, we took some pictures and headed in. Braedon walked into his class, headed straight for the trains, and never looked back. "She you waiter. Goodbye." He didn't need us anymore. You'd think I'd be sad about that, but no. I was thrilled. He remembered school. He knew what he was doing. He didn't need mom and dad hovering around.

He had a wonderful first day. Of the six 30 minute sessions he earned his menu during four of them. That means he was 100% attending and doing his task. He's working on colors, prepositions and function of objects. He picked up on his tasks really fast and did awesome.

When I picked him up, he didn't run to me and start getting upset we weren't leaving fast enough. He put his work away and was casual about leaving. He used to panic if I didn't leave fast enough. It was great. I did get a new prescription for his ADHD, but we're going to wait a few weeks before trying this one. I just hope to avoid the horrible meltdowns the Vyvanse caused.

Reilly...What a character. I worried about him all day long. How was he doing? Was he struggling? Was he having fun? Would he eat lunch? Would he get along with others? Would he even notice others? A million questions went through my head all day.

He did GREAT! All Reilly is working on in his sessions is sitting on his chair with his feet down and his hands down. He got a 50%, 80%, 100%, 100% and 70%! That is incredible. He had his fair share of meltdowns and yelling fits, but he caught on. He moved five levels in one day!!! 5!! For one session, when he was told it was time to work he ran right over to his chair and sat down. During lunch, he didn't even get out of his seat. He simply ate his lunch with the other boys. If you know Reilly, that is a BIG DEAL!

When I got there to pick him up, he saw me and said "Yeah" and gave me a kiss. Talk about a tear jerker. He looked so tired. He couldn't even close his mouth, he was that tired.

We got in the car and headed home. Reilly fell asleep not 5 minutes out. When we got home, I put Reilly down for a few minutes. I'm not sure who was more happy to see the other: Braedon or Xoshi. Those two have been running and playing since we got home.

It's been a great day for the boys. I did get lonely and sad at home by myself. It felt pretty empty. Hopefully tomorrow gets better for mom. :-)

As for Braedon and Reilly, I couldn't be happier for them. There can be a lot of frustration with autism. Things seem to move at a snails pace. I'm on cloud 9 today.
