Today all my boys are home. The boys don't have school and Dean doesn't have work. This is a good way to spend the MLK holiday. After "surviving" Sunday, it's nice to have a day to relax, do some carpet cleaning, and reflect with the family.
Reilly has become a Sunbeam in Primary this year. Wow, is that taking some adjustment. I find myself in a dilemma which I'm sure every parent finds themselves. I want him to understand that in opening exercises for Primary, he should sit in his chair and pay attention. Reilly doesn't like to do that and wants to run around and play. When I try to make him sit down, he just screams. My dilemma is how much to push? I don't want him screaming the entire time, because that is distracting. I also don't want him to think if he does scream I'll let him run around. It's a dance. A very exhausting and often frustrating dance. Hopefully over time it will work itself out....Hopefully.
Reilly is starting to turn a little corner. His eye contact with me and his teachers has really progressed over the last few weeks. He actually looks at you and smiles. Which is huge! He's also starting to say more words. We sit on the couch and "talk" to each other. He likes to say Yummy, No, and Cougar (I'm teaching him BYU language at an early age). He doesn't pronounce the words clearly, but I'm thrilled he is trying.
My Braedon has discovered cooking shows. He was sick on Saturday and stayed in my bed most of the day. I stayed with him for several hours and we watched cooking show after cooking show. He would ask me what things were and offer his opinion. Things were either Yummy or Yucky. If I turned the channel he'd start yelling, "Cooking show!" We watched a lot of cooking shows on Saturday.
Being a mom is awesome, exhausting, frustrating, and absolutely wonderful. The small changes in my boys is such a huge thing to me. It means they are making progress. Sometimes I feel like it is similar to watching paint dry on a wall. But when it happens, it is incredible.
Now I am off to enjoy a wonderful day of my boys. My very favorite way to spend a day.
