A night of music

Last night we got all dressed up and headed downtown to Capital Theatre for a concert with the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera Ensemble. We arrived a few minutes before the doors opened and stood out in the lobby talking with friends we see now and then. Some we only see at this concert once a year.

The doors opened and we walked inside to take our seats. We sat center stage about 20 or so rows back. I'm not a fan of sitting too close or too far away. In my mind, there is a happy medium in the middle. Braedon was rather impressed with the "grandness" of Capital Theatre. He enjoyed looking around. That was until he looked at the stage and noticed a woman standing to the side with a violin in her hands. Braedon loves the violin. He excitedly yelled, "Wook! Viowin!"

As we sat waiting for the concert to begin Braedon told me all of the different instruments as they came on stage to warm and tune up. The Cello. The Bassoon. The Trombone. The Harp. He didn't miss an instrument.

Reilly doesn't share his brothers love for instruments and was, instead, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on his daddy's phone with a few other boys sitting around us.

When the lights dimmed and the conductor walked on stage we all clapped. Once the clapping subsided Braedon yells, "High 5!" Slaps my hand and says, "Yeah!" He was ready.

Reilly enjoyed 10 minutes of the concert and the rest of the night crawling on the floor. Braedon sat in his seat and enjoyed it all. He prefers just the Symphony and wasn't too excited for the Opera part. When the Symphony played he was very excited. He would bob his head up and down and listen to the different instruments. Sometimes I would see him moving to the sound of the violins. Sometimes to the sounds of the brass section. Other times to the sounds of the percussion. He really enjoys the sound of music.

The final song was the Can-can and everyone loves to clap along to this. Braedon didn't appreciate this, as it was hard for him to hear the music.

When it finished, we all stood and clapped and clapped. The children yelled and were so excited. It really was a great night and a wonderful thing to take our boys too. Next year, we'll get dressed up again and head back to the Theatre. Hooray!
