One day, a few weeks ago, I was outside with Braedon and he started to do his "I need to go pee" dance. He even ran to the backdoor and started to say, "toiwet. toiwet." As I begun fumbling with my keys to unlock the backdoor, it dawned on me he can just go outside.
I led him over to the side of the yard, helped him pull his pants down, and he started to pee. He thought it was pretty cool, as did Reilly. Reilly ran over with a handful of dirt hoping he could toss the dirt in the stream of pee. I had one hand on Braedon's clothes so he wouldn't pee on himself and the other hand was trying to keep Reilly from playing in the pee stream. It was a beautiful picture.
The next day, the boys played outside in the afternoon, as usual. When it was time to come in, I took off Braedon's shoes and pants and he started to run back outside. He stopped at the doorway and lifted his little hips to pee. I had to yell, "No! Go in the grass outside." He agreed, ran outside in just a t-shirt, and went to the bathroom.
The third day, he came inside and once undressed, ran outside and went the to the bathroom. Since then, I'm happy to say he does run inside to pee. It hasn't become a normal thing.
This last Saturday my in-laws were over to help with some wiring in the house and Braedon went outside to play for a bit. We were inside watching him and noticed he was doing is familiar pee dance. This time, he just pulled his pants down, ran to the side of the yard, lifted his little hips, and went potty. When he was done, he pulled his pants up and went back to playing. I was so happy my mother-in-law was there to see that.
To be a little boy in a big backyard.
