Reilly stayed home from school yesterday with a cold and fever. Last night when it was time to go to bed, he insisted that I lay with him for two hours while he got comfortable and fell asleep. Each time I tried to leave, he would come and get me and lead me back to his bed.
While we were laying in bed, I decided to work on some words with him. I pointed at my eye and said, "I." I pointed at my heart and said, "Love." I pointed at Reilly's tummy and said, "You." I did this over and over. When I stopped Reilly pointed at his eye and said, "I". He pointed at his heart and said, "Wub." He pointed at his tummy and said, "You." How awesome is that?! It's such a treat to hear his voice.
I called my mom and had him say it for her. We even mixed it up and had him say, "I wub Nanny."
This morning Braedon was getting ready for school and decided he wanted to take the bathtub stopper with him. I told him no and it needed to remain in the bathroom. We went back and forth on this issue for awhile. Finally I put my foot down and used my "mommy voice" to tell him no. He ran into the bathroom to throw the plug down and then ran into his room. He stood by his buckets of toys, prepared to pick one up and toss it across the room. I simply said, "Don't!" He ran out of his room and into the dining room and stood for a moment. I walked back into the front room and sat on the couch.
Braedon came walking in and stood in front of me and said, "Show me mad. Show me mad." I said, "Show me mad." He put his train down and put his hands on his hips and grunted. That is how he shows the emotion mad at school.
Braedon communicated to me that he was mad at me. How cool is that? He didn't throw his toys across the room, hit his brother, scream and run around the room. He came up to me and showed me he was mad.
We were able to then have a conversation. Well, I was able to have a conversation and then give him a hug.
Oh how I love progress!
